While the arrival of winter marks the beginning of shorter and grayer days in the Netherlands, it also signals that the Amsterdam Light Festival is about to begin here.

This year, the 13th edition of the event, themed "Rituals," will illuminate the city's canals, celebrating the symbolic actions that give meaning to various moments in life.

Think for a moment: lights play a fundamental role in various rituals around the world. During Chanukah, for example, eight candles are lit in the menorah (a special candelabrum) to symbolize the strength of Jewish faith. During Christmas, decorative lights on homes and trees symbolize renewal and the celebration of life. Fireworks and paper lanterns mark the festivities of New Year’s Eve and the Chinese New Year. These rituals, filled with light, have the power to unify people, bringing them into the same positive vibe. It is this collective energy that the Amsterdam Light Festival aims to convey.

This year, the festival also marks a special historic moment: the celebration of 750 years of Amsterdam. The lights and artistic installations spread throughout the city not only honor this long history but also connect locals and tourists in a celebration of the vibrant culture and soul of Amsterdam.

Unmissable Experience in Amsterdam

From November 28, 2024, to January 19, 2025, 27 illuminated artworks will be on display, bringing even more charm to the already enchanting landscape of Amsterdam. Observing these installations has become a ritual for those who live in or visit the city during this time of year.
